Lifestyle Concierge from Ten

Wednesday 14 July 2010

Dear $f

Welcome to Access.

The recent sunshine has kept us busy helping members with barbecues, al fresco parties, picnics and ice-cream parlours. This issue of Access features tips on London's free summer festivals, our favourite Mediterranean restaurants for food with a holiday flavour, and advice on taking the car across Europe.

If you’re planning a long weekend in the UK to make the most of summer, talk to us about our member discount with the von Essen collection of hotels. 'Its portfolio includes luxury properties in the countryside across England, Scotland and Wales,’ says Lydia Patchett, one of our travel experts. ‘Each hotel offers guests a unique, distinctive experience, from Bath and Berkshire to Derbyshire or Devon.’ And if you'd like to know more about our Weekend Break Club, call a lifestyle manager for further information.

Call us on 0845 020 5260 or email access@tengroup.com for more information on anything in this week’s newsletter, or for more suggestions on family-friendly activities or outdoor events that will make the most of clear skies.

Ten lifestyle concierge service is available 24 hours a day. Members can relax, knowing that our teams of multilingual specialists are on hand to help with requests, from the standard to the complex. Requests range from car hire, theatre tickets and flower deliveries to bespoke travel itineraries and high-end retail purchases.

Free London festivals
––––––––––

This year

This weekend Soul II Soul's Jazzie B and Alabama 3 will provide the soundtrack to the Lambeth Country Show, an eclectic mix of rural pursuits and urban pleasures, while Europe’s largest Latin American festival will fill Southwark with the sounds of salsa in August. There’s Asian music and culture at Gunnersbury Park for the London Mela, and the sound systems of the Notting Hill Carnival, one of the world’s biggest street parties, will blast through West London for the summer’s last bank holiday.

It’s carnival time in London, and we have a guide to the best free festivals. Call us to make restaurant bookings near the events, organise transport or arrange access to the season’s major music festivals.

Mediterranean restaurants in London

This month

Of all the world’s seas, it’s the Mediterranean that has the strongest reputation for gastronomy. For centuries, diverse cultures traded produce, spices and recipes along its merchant routes and within its empires, as regions absorbed distant influences to create their distinct cuisines.

Mediterranean cooking is as varied as the area's languages, so adventurous food lovers have much to explore. And because the food is designed for the region’s sub-tropical climate, it’s ideal for summer dining.

Call us for tips on where to dine near you, to make reservations at one of our favourite Mediterranean restaurants in London or to book a table overlooking the sea itself.

Preparing your car for the Continent
––––––––––

This summer

A checklist is a useful travel tool, making sure you remember the passport, tickets, suntan lotion and that book you’ve been saving for the beach. But when planning a road trip, it’s essential to prepare scrupulously. ‘If you’re planning to drive in Europe, you’ll need to make sure your car is fit for long-distance travel as well as meeting the legal requirements of the countries you are visiting,’ says Andrew Moss, one of our motoring experts. The paper counterpart for your driving licence if you have a photocard, a motor insurance certificate and your vehicle’s registration log book are just some of the items you’ll need to take.

Read Andrew’s advice on planning for a driving holiday and, remember – whether you’re travelling by plane, train or automobile – to take our number with you for emergency travel help.
